Prodigy pets list: all pets and where to find them

Prodigy pets are the companions that fight beside your wizard, and there are many of them. Every pet lives in a particular part of the game world, has one of five elements, and can be caught by battling it in the wild. This list explains how pets are organised, which zones hold which kinds of pets, and how to catch the ones you want, so you can stop wandering the map and start building the team you actually want.

How the pets list works

Pets in Prodigy are organised in two ways that matter for hunting: where they live, and what element they are. A pet zone tells you where to look, and a pet element tells you what it is strong and weak against in battle. A fire pet hits plant pets hard and struggles against water pets, a water pet hits fire pets hard and struggles against storm pets, and so on around the circle of five elements: fire, water, plant, storm and ice.

The in game pet book is the final word on which pets exist right now, because the game adds and changes pets with updates. Any guide that promises a fixed list of names will go out of date, so use this guide to understand the zones and elements, then check the pet book in the game for the current names. If you are new to pets altogether, start with Prodigy pets: how to catch and evolve.

Pets by zone

ZoneWhat it is likePets you will meet there
Firefly ForestThe green starting area, gentle wild petsMostly plant and common pets, a good place to catch your first companions
Shiverchill MountainsCold snowy peaks, tougher wild petsIce pets, including some of the rarer cold weather pets
Bonfire SpireA hot volcanic area, strong wild petsFire pets, including rare fire pets found nowhere else
Shipwreck ShoreA wild coastline, water loving petsWater pets, including rare water pets near the shore
SkywatchHigh floating islands, storm touched petsStorm pets, including rare storm pets in the higher areas

The pattern is simple: the further you travel from the starting forest, and the higher the level of the wild pets, the rarer the pets you will meet. A player who has only explored the forest will keep meeting the same common pets, while a player who has opened up the later zones will start seeing pets they have never met before. Pets by element

Every pet has one element, and the element decides its strengths and weaknesses in battle. The five elements are fire, water, plant, storm and ice. A balanced team has more than one element in it, so you are never stuck when a boss is strong against your only pet.

Fire pets are strong against plant pets and weak against water pets. Water pets are strong against fire pets and weak against storm pets. Plant pets are strong against water pets and weak against fire pets. Storm pets are strong against water pets and weak against ice pets. Ice pets are strong against storm pets and weak against fire pets. Knowing this circle is the difference between a battle that takes three rounds and one that takes ten. If you want the rarest pets of each element, read the Prodigy rare pets guide.

How to catch a pet

  1. Travel to the zone where the pet you want lives. Check the table above, then explore that zone until wild pets appear.
  2. Battle the pet in the wild. Answer math questions to cast spells, and wear the pet down until it is weak enough to rescue.
  3. Rescue the pet when the game offers the chance. The pet joins your team, and you can use it in your next battle.
  4. Level the pet up by battling with it. Pets evolve into stronger forms as they grow, with new spells and better stats.

Building your team

A good team is not five rare pets. It is a team that covers the elements, has a mix of levels, and includes at least one pet you have trained properly. Train the pets you use, not the ones sitting in the back, because a level 20 common pet will beat a level 5 rare pet every time. Keep one strong pet of each element, rotate them into battles so they all gain experience, and save your rarest pets for the boss fights where their extra strength matters most.

Frequently asked questions

How many pets are there in Prodigy?

The number changes as the game updates, with new pets added over time. The in game pet book shows the current total and which ones you have caught, so check there for the exact number today.

Where do you find pets in Prodigy?

In the wild, in the different zones of the game world. Each zone has its own pets, so travel to the zone that holds the kind of pet you want and battle the wild pets you meet there.

What is the best pet in Prodigy?

There is no single best pet. The strongest choice depends on the battle, because each element is strong against some pets and weak against others. A balanced team with several elements beats a team built around one pet.

Can you catch every pet in Prodigy for free?

Most pets can be caught in the free game by battling them in the wild. Some pets are tied to membership or special events, but the large majority of the pet list is available to every player.

Do pets evolve in Prodigy?

Yes. Pets level up as they battle, and they evolve into stronger forms as they grow, with new spells and better stats. Training a pet is how you keep it useful as the battles get harder.
