Prodigy not working: login and app problems

If Prodigy will not log you in, or the game will not load, the cause is usually a wrong username or password, a browser problem, or a school device block. Work through the fixes below in order and you will find the cause in a few minutes. Start with the quick checks, then move to the section that matches your problem.

First checks

Before you change anything, check three things. First, make sure you have an internet connection by opening any other website. Second, make sure you are on the right site: students log in at play.prodigygame.com, while teachers and parents log in at prodigygame.com. Third, check that caps lock is off, because Prodigy passwords are case sensitive. If all three check out, move to the section below that matches your problem.

Wrong username or password

“Wrong username or password” is the most common login error, and it usually means a typing mistake. Read the username back letter by letter and compare it with what your teacher or parent wrote down. Remember that a student username is not an email address, while a teacher or parent login uses an email address. If you are sure the details are right and it still fails, the password may have changed, or you may be signed in to the wrong account on a shared device. Log out fully and log in again with your own details. If it still fails, reset the password using Prodigy password reset and account recovery.

Forgot password

If you forgot your password, select the “Forgot Password?” link on the login page and enter the registered email address. Prodigy emails a reset link to that address. Check your spam or junk folder if it does not arrive in a few minutes. Students have no email address on their accounts, so a student who forgot a password must ask a teacher or a parent to reset it. A parent can do it from the Parent Dashboard under Manage Child, and a teacher can do it from the class list.

Browser fixes

If the login page loads but the game does not, or the page acts strangely, the browser is the likely cause. Try these in order: clear your browser cache and cookies, then close the browser fully and open it again; update the browser to the latest version; turn off browser extensions, especially ad blockers, and try again; try a different browser, such as Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge. Prodigy works best on a current browser, and old cached files are a common cause of loading problems.

App problems

If the app will not let you log in but the website works, the problem is in the app, not your account. First, check for an app update in your app store and install it. If that does not help, remove the app and install it again. Remember that login with Google or Clever only works on the website, not inside the app, so use the browser at play.prodigygame.com if your school uses one of those. On a Fire tablet in a Kids profile, the “Learn First” setting can block the app; turning it off, or opening the game in the browser instead, fixes it. If the app still fails after an update and a reinstall, use the browser version and contact support about the app.

Login loop

A login loop is when you enter your details, the page loads, and you land back on the login page again. The usual cause is a cookie or cache problem. Clear your cookies for the Prodigy site, close the browser, and try again. If that fails, try a private or incognito window, which starts with no saved cookies. If the loop only happens on one device, the account is fine and the device is the problem, so try the same login on a second device to confirm.

School device blocks

School Chromebooks and tablets often block game sites, app stores, or login pages. If Prodigy works at home but not at school, a school filter is the likely cause. Ask your teacher first, because the teacher can check whether the school allows Prodigy and can ask the IT admin to allow the Prodigy addresses. Do not try to bypass a school filter yourself. If the school uses Google or Clever login, make sure you use the school account and the browser, not the app.

Account locked

Repeated failed login attempts can lock an account for a short time. If you tried many times and now every attempt fails, stop and wait a few minutes before you try again. Do not keep guessing, because each failed attempt can extend the lock. When you try again, type the details slowly and check them before you submit. If the lock does not clear, ask a teacher or parent to reset the password, or contact Prodigy support.

When to contact Prodigy support

Contact support when the fixes above do not help, when you cannot recover the account at all, or when you think someone else changed your password. Prodigy support is reached through the support portal on the official Prodigy site. Have these details ready: the username or email address on the account, the school or class if it is a student account, and what you already tried. Support will never ask for your password by email, so treat any message that does as suspicious.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Prodigy say my password is wrong?

Usually a typing mistake, caps lock left on, or a password that changed. Passwords are case sensitive. Read the details back slowly, and if they still fail, reset the password.

Why does the game load and then stop?

Old cached files, an outdated browser, a blocking extension, or a weak connection are the usual causes. Clear cache and cookies, update the browser, turn off ad blockers, and try another browser.

Prodigy works on my phone but not the school Chromebook. Why?

School devices often block game sites or use filters that home devices do not have. Ask your teacher to check with the school IT admin, and test the same login at home to confirm the account is fine.

The app will not let me log in but the website does. Why?

Login with Google or Clever only works on the website, not in the app. Update or reinstall the app, and use the browser at play.prodigygame.com if your school uses Google or Clever. On a Fire tablet Kids profile, the Learn First setting can also block the app.

How do I contact Prodigy support?

Through the support portal on the official Prodigy site. Have your username or email address, your school or class, and a list of what you already tried ready before you write.
